Sainsbury’s launches TU Premium

Sainsbury’s is set to give mid-market fashion retailers a run for their money as it launches a premium fashion range which is distinctly upmarket. The range offers classic pieces influenced by the catwalk and made in quality fabrics. The retailer is close to reaching £1 billion sales of clothing and its online operation is understood to be performing well alongside its stores.

“Shopping for clothes in supermarkets has become firmly established, and our strategy of offering customers high street style at supermarket prices in an attractive, department store style setting has helped us to increase our market share,” said James Brown, director of non-food trading.

The success of supermarkets like Sainsbury’s has most definitely impacted the clothing sales at stores like Marks and Spencer and Debenhams. With most customers visiting supermarkets weekly. the footfall in the clothing areas is constant and the stores are adept at displaying new lines for impact,  as well as mounting regular sales. This combined with a focus on delivering quality products has helped them to achieve high repeat purchasing levels.
