Wincanton wins Kelkay contract

Wincanton has been awarded an initial three-year contract to deliver a scalable transport service to garden landscaping brand Kelkay.

The new contract, which builds on Wincanton’s existing relationship as a trusted partner to Kelkay since 2019, will see the logistics group manage the movement of some 20,000 orders-per-year from Kelkay’s site in Pollington, East Yorkshire. With goods being distributed to over 2,000 retail locations across the UK and Ireland.

Wincanton will manage operations from a transport planning hub in Wigan, with some of their team also based at Kelkay’s Pollington site.

The contract win will, says Wincanton, ‘strengthen its position as a leading supplier to the UK’s garden products retail market’. A market that, according to Mintel, is forecast to see sales grow by 35.3 per cent by 2025, as consumers continue to focus on improving their gardens and outdoor spaces.

Paul North, managing director of AMES UK, which owns the Kelkay, La Hacienda, True Temper and Apta brands, said: “Our partnership with Wincanton is key to delivering our ambitious and exciting growth plans. Their highly professional approach, together with enormous flexibility, gives us the logistics capacity to handle the rapid growth in our business. The Wincanton team is now seamlessly embedded in our organisation and our customers will benefit through streamlined communications and timely deliveries.”
