Frugi honoured with ultimate Royal approval

Frugi, the Cornwall based ethical clothing brand as been
honoured with a 2014 Queen’s Award for Enterprise.

Frugi is the first childrenswear brand to receive this award
which has come just weeks after the announcement that Ian Scott, group supply
director at Mulberry, is joining its newly formed Board as chairman. Frugi was
founded in 2004 and is now considered to be the leading ethical and organic
children’s clothing brand. Catering for newborn to ten years and with a stylish
breastfeeding wear range for mothers, Frugi clothing is available online from
the company’s website as well as from retailers around the world. Most of its organic
cotton clothing is manufactured in India, Portugal and Turkey, and as an
ethical business it makes sure that all workers are fairly paid and well
treated. For Spring/Summer 2014 the business has produced some designed and
printed in Cornwall t-shirts and for Autumn/Winter 2014 is launching a range of
UK made knitwear.

The honour arose because of the brand’s outstanding
international growth. It was able to demonstrate substantial developments in
overseas earnings and commercial success, sustained over more than three years.
The business, which employs just under 50 staff at its offices in Helston,
Cornwall, exports to 50 countries. Some 30-35 per cent of its £4.5 million
annual sales are made direct to consumers, with the balance to trade,
customers, and around 50 per cent overall is export.

A delighted Lucy Jewson who co-founded the business with her
husband Kurt in a spare room said “we are delighted to receive such a prestigious
award. This business is growing at a phenomenal rate both nationally and
internationally which indicates the global demand for Well-designed organic and
ethical clothing. We couldn’t be where we are without so many great customers which
is why we try to provide the best customer experience possible.”
