Multichannel retailer, Scotts & CO, has announced today that it has acquired the catalogue and online businesses or Rowlands Clothing Ltd., and Rosemex Trading Ltd., from their private equity backers. Having successfully turned around the business of high-end fashion label Artigiano which it acquired in 2010, Scotts is looking to repeat the process with Rowlands, a mid-market fashion brand which was founded in 1983 by Marjorie Rowland Jones and her husband David. The business was originally known as Rowlands of Bath and it is under this name that the brand is now set to be re-launched in February 2015.
“Our aim,” said Nigel Swabey, Chairman of Scotts & Co.,”is to create new collection that honours the tradition of Rowlands of Bath as a retailer of high quality women’s clothing for the discerning customer aged 55+.”
The Rowlands brand is the latest in a string of acquisitions made by Swindon based Scotts & Co. over the past 5 years. This latest acquisition consolidates the position of Scotts & Co. as the largest multi-title catalogue and online retailer in the UK that is still in private ownership. The group mails 35 million catalogues to its customers each year and distributes a further 40 million editions as inserts in quality national newspapers and magazines.
