John Lewis Partnership has flatly denied that there is any substance in the report published in the Sunday Times which suggested that Amazon had approached it to open talks about buying Waitrose. The report had followed other speculation that Amazon would need to make a significant UK food chain acquisition to further develop its plans to increase market share in groceries. In the US it has 450 bricks and mortar stores from its acquisition of Whole Foods, whereas in the UK it has just seven in the London area.
