Matalan has posted a sales increase of 5 per cent for the 13 weeks ended May 26th, at £265.9 million from £253.4 million for the same quarter last year. Its online sales had risen by 39 per cent. These results are in marked contrast to others being reported which have been blamed mostly on currency headwinds, increases in staff costs and higher business rates.
