Clarks has commenced a 30 day consultation period with its Somerset factory employees as it plans to completely cease UK production. Some 49 jobs are affected but will not, it is understood, have any impact on head office roles which remain in Street. The British footwear specialist moved most of its manufacturing to Asia in 2005 and operates 533 stores in the UK and Ireland, plus several hundred overseas.
