Debenhams scuppers Next’s beauty hall plans

It is being suggested that Debenhams chairman Mark Gifford has prevented Hammersons from leasing two of the Debenhams stores it had said it would close. The sites in Birmingham and Glasgow were to have been included in Next’s new beauty hall venture. Next will, however, retain the other three Hammerson owned sites left vacant by Debenhams which are located in Reading, Croydon and Leicester.

Debenhams had widely announced that it was unable to agree new terms with Hammerson having entered administration for a second time.
