News that Edinburgh Woollen Mill is to immediately close 50 of its c.1100 stores, following its filing of a notice to appoint administrators on October 9th, has been met with anger from landlords who stand to lose out as the retailer sheds lease commitments.
The business has written to landlords saying that its lease portfolio is under scrutiny as it gauges which, if any, stores will be retained or potentially transferred by the company.
It is understood that Bonmarche does not form part of the administration plan and that a proposed pre-pack deal will leave Philip Day still leading the slimmed-down, rationalised retail group.
