Mulberry sales rise 18 per cent in first half as full-price trading grows

Mulberry’s sales rose 18.1 per cent in the first half, with growth across its regions and a lower share of promotional sales.

Sales for the 26 weeks to 26 September increased 18.1 per cent in actual currency and 18.2 per cent in constant currency, in line with the board’s expectations.

The US led, with sales up 28 per cent year on year, followed by Europe excluding the UK at 23 per cent, the UK at 10 per cent and Asia Pacific at 5 per cent. On a like-for-like basis, sales rose 34 per cent in the US, 21 per cent in Europe, 9 per cent in the UK and 24 per cent in Asia Pacific.

Franchise and wholesale sales increased 52 per cent and represented 17 per cent of group sales, against 16 per cent a year earlier. Mulberry said promotional sales, excluding markdown activity, made up a 300-basis-point smaller share of sales than in the prior-year period.

The group said it entered the second half with a strong product pipeline and a continued focus on full-price growth. Full half-year results are due on 19 November.
