Halfords maintains profit guidance after 7.1 per cent sales growth

Halfords has maintained its full-year profit guidance after group like-for-like sales increased by 7.1 per cent in the 26 weeks to 2 October.

Retail like-for-like sales rose by 7.7 per cent, comprising growth of 7.3 per cent in Motoring and 8.3 per cent in Cycling. Autocentres sales, excluding the Avayler software business, increased by 6.1 per cent.

The retailer said its first-half performance reflected progress against its strategic priorities alongside strong demand for seasonal products during the warm summer.

Halfords continues to expect underlying profit before tax of between £55m and £65m for the year. It cautioned that profit will be weighted towards the first half as it accelerates marketing and technology investment during the remainder of the year.

The group operates 367 Halfords stores, two Tredz performance-cycling stores and 497 consumer garages, alongside fleet locations and mobile service vans. Customers can order online for collection or home delivery and book garage services digitally.

Halfords will publish its interim results on 26 November.
