Findel buys fitness equipment supplier Gym Gear

Findel, the educational resources supplier owned by Manutan Group, has bought Gym Gear, a Preston-based supplier of fitness equipment and gym design and installation services.

Manutan announced the deal on 29 October. It did not disclose the price.

About Gym Gear

  • Founded in 2005 and trading for 21 years
  • Based in Preston, Lancashire
  • Designs sports and fitness facilities and supplies and installs commercial fitness equipment
  • Customers in the education, leisure and public sectors across the UK

Gym Gear will run as a standalone business and will continue to be led by its directors Richard Lambert and David Bulcock, with all 26 employees staying with the business.

A wider sports portfolio

Gym Gear joins two other specialist sports brands in the Manutan Group: Davies Sports, Findel’s supplier of sports equipment to schools, clubs and local authorities, and Casal Sport in France.

Chris Mahady, chief executive of Findel, said Gym Gear had built a strong and recognised brand in its markets and that Findel would provide the support and investment needed to develop its products and services.

Richard Lambert said the backing would help Gym Gear grow faster and that customers would continue to deal with the same team.

Xavier Guichard, chairman of Manutan Group, said the deal builds on the group’s existing sports businesses in the UK and France and opens up a complementary market.
