In a tough economy, the absence of bad news is good news. And
Findel has some good news to report: For the 19 weeks ended
15th August, sales were up 2 per cent from the same period of
last year. Within the home shopping division, sales were up 3
per cent, and “bad debt rates have continued to fall from
their peak in March and are in line with our
expectations”. Findel’s home shopping brands include
The Cotswold Company, Express Gifts and Kleeneze.
The Baugur-led consortium whose bid for troubled
retailer Woolworths was rejected isn’t taking no for an
answer. According to the Financial Times, the group “has
contacted other shareholders to try to force the directors to
open negotiations over the future of the retailer’s
stores”.
Believe it or not, there has been less discounting on the
high street this summer than last, the Financial Times reports.
