Online gift registry Wrapit will have to call in the administrators next week, according to The Times, unless it finds a buyer or a source of additional funds before then. In the meantime, customers have complained of not receiving their wedding-registry gifts for months after their wedding.
The Times’ headline regarding June retail sales pretty much says it all: “Retail sales dive 3.9 per cent in worst fall for 22 years”.
Consumer electricals merchant DSGi (parent company of retailer/cataloguer PC World and web-only merchant Dixons), Marks & Spencer, Argos sister company Homebase and home furnishings retailer Habitat are among “the 10 retailers feeling the pinch most acutely,” according to The Independent.
Tesco is opening what KentOnline calls a “dotcom store” in Aylesford: a centralised warehouse for customers who have ordered online. Some 300 employees who handle fulfilment of online orders in five nearby Tesco stores will be offered the opportunity to work at the new facility, and another 250 jobs will be created. Tesco has another centralised web-fulfilment facility in Croydon.
The media’s favourite fashion merchant, ASOS.com, is listed among The Mirror’s “top 40 money-saving websites”. Other online merchants included in the list: FurnitureDeal.co.uk, DiscountFurnitureDirect.co.uk and Tesco.com.
