Just two years after buying Greetings Direct, Flying Brands is winding down the brand. According to Forbes, the multititle mailer “will start a managed closure of the UK and Australia operations over the next 12 months”. It has also ceased its test of the US market for Greetings Direct. Only a few months ago Flying Brands said it was “convinced” by the “excellent response levels” to the continuity greetings-card brand in Australia that the brand would succeed in the States. Flying Brands’ other businesses include Gardening Direct and Flying Flowers.
Findel reported a 3 per cent rise in first-quarter sales. Findel operates three divisions: home shopping, which includes the Express Gifts, Kitbag and Kleeneze brands; educational supplies, which includes NES Arnold and Step by Step; and healthcare.
Icelandic firm Baugur. whose stable of UK multichannel retailers includes Hamleys and House of Fraser, is relocating to the UK, reports The Telegraph. The move will allow Jon Asgeir Johannesson to remain executive chairman following his conviction in Iceland of bookkeeping-related offences.
