Yesterday the Bank of England cut interest rates another 0.25
per cent, to 5 per cent. For the most part, the experts rounded up
by The Guardian and The Times approved of the step-through some
are already calling for additional cuts.

On a happier note, chocolatier Thorntons created the
world’s largest box of chocolates-more than 16 ft tall and 11 ft
wide–in Leicester Square, London, to promote a new offering.

”Is online shopping ever secure?” asks The Guardian. The newspaper would have you
believe that the answer is no. Despite its scare-mongering,
though, the article does include some useful advice for
merchants and consumers alike from several security
consultancies.

Happy birthday to apparel brand Barbour, which
yesterday celebrated the 100th anniversary of its first
catalogue. The Shields Gazette gives an overview of
the company’s history, including a photo of the first
catalogue’s cover.
