DSG International (DSGi), the parent company of
Currys, Dixons and PC World, is expected to close
up to 200 of its 700 stores, reports The Times. What’s more, according to
Forbes, US retailer Best Buy is
considering a takeover offer for the electricals merchant. Best
Buy last week agreed to buy a 50 per cent share of Carphone
Warehouse Group for £1.1 billion.

“Business customers are deserting Royal Mail and most
firms do not find the postal group an efficient organisation to
work with, a study by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) for
The Times has revealed.”

Brand valuation firm Intangible Business has released its
ranking of the UK’s most valuable retail brands. Tesco
tops the list, with Argos and John Lewis also in
the top 10. Cataloguer/retailers Boden and Early
Learning Centre are among the companies names “ones
to watch”. Also on the list: Next (number 11),
Littlewoods (16), PC World (30), Dell
(60), Dixons (73), Laura Ashley (74),
Grattan (76) and Freemans (81).

Boots.com was named Best Beauty Website in the Sunday Times Beauty Awards, voted on by
readers. The Times also singled out LoveLula.com for its
“lovely organic beauty aids”.

The Times also cited casual apparel merchant
Howies as an eco-friendly fashion marketer that could
hit the big-time. Said Howies founder David Hieatt in the
article, “Nobody knows which of us it will be, but there
is no doubt that one or two ethical fashion companies will
become the next Nike. That growth will be based not just on
sustainability, but on profit.”
