Arcandor, the German parent company of the
Primondo catalogue unit and Thomas Cook, may file for
insolvency as early as today, reports The Guardian.

Home Shopping, will likely take advantage of a
“Channel Islands tax loophole in order to sell VAT-free
CDs, DVDs, and video games over the internet, undercutting
prices in struggling independent high-street stores and
depriving the Treasury of millions of pounds in lost
revenues”. Amazon, Argos, and Zavvi are
among the other direct merchants that ship goods from the
Channel Islands in order to avoid charging VAT.
UK businesses are more confident about the future than they
