achievement award for his contribution to the catalogue and home
shopping sector at last night’s ECMOD Awards ceremony. Swabey is
chief executive of multibrand group Scotts & Co and

Turnaround specialist Aurelius, which bought bookclub
BCA earlier this year, has acquired Virgin Media-owned
shopping group Sit Up Limited, writes Broadband TV News.
Sit Up’s TV shopping channel portfolio comprises Bid TV, Price
Drop TV and Speed Auction TV.

Following a trading update yesterday that showed
international sales had risen 40 per cent in the final quarter,
down from a growth of 49 per cent the previous quarter,
Mothercare is pushing ahead with its international
expansion plans. According to the FT, the dip was attributed to
“seasonal holidays” but that “the Middle
East, Russia, eastern Europe and China offered huge
opportunities for growth”. Sales at Mothercare’s
catalogue and online division rose almost 27 per cent in the
fourth quarter and are up 30.6 per cent over the full year.

Drapers reports that marketing director
Gill Barr, commercial director Phil Hullah and Miranda
Goodenough, head of direct marketing have all left John
Lewis.

Cataloguer/retailer Argos has expanded into the
entertainment sector with the launch of
www.argosentertainment.co.uk. The new website, in partnership
with The Hut, will enable Argos to offer a range of CDs
and DVDs.
