News roundup–17th April 2009

TV and online marketer Ideal Shopping Direct posted a
2 per cent decline in annual sales, to £94.7 million for the
year ended 28th December 2008. The company ended the year in the
red, with a £13.2 million loss; the previous year it had
reported profit of £5.2 million. In a statement, however, it
noted that “2009 has begun with sales slightly ahead of our
expectations”.

Entrepreneur Sir Tom Hunter “now effectively has
control” of troubled multititle mailer Flying
Brands, according to The Daily Mail. Its article on the company
has a great opening, by the way: “How do you make a small
fortune? Start with a big one.”
