Multi title mailer Flying Brands will be cutting staff
in order to reduce its salaried employee costs by 15 per cent. It
didn’t detail how many jobs would be cut, however. The company,
whose brands into Flying Flowers and Gardening
Direct, also posted a 2.4 per cent rise in first-quarter
revenue, to £12.7 million for the 13 weeks ended 3rd April.
Sales at Flying Flowers declined 6 per cent, to £3.1 million,
while sales for the entertainment division, which includes
Listen2, were flat. The gardening division enjoyed a
nearly 8 per cent rise in sales, to £8.4 million.
Plants merchant Crocus has shed its paper catalogue.
The company will now sell exclusively online, with a digital
catalogue as well as its traditional website. It mailed a
postcard to its house file earlier this month informing them of
the switch but has no plans for additional postal mailings.
Linpac Storage Systems, a manufacturer/marketer of
storage and handling supplies, has launched JustLinbins.com, a
website dedicated to its range of smaller storage bins and
systems. Linpac’s core website, StorageDirect.co.uk, sells its
full line of racking, warehouse, and office equipment.
The Book Depository has organised an online charity
auction, beginning tonight on eBay, of exclusive artwork
from writers and illustrators to raise funds for DownsEnd, a
charity that provides improved education for people with Down
syndrome. The books cataloguer had commissioned the artwork for
a collection of bookmarks it is giving away with purchases to
celebrate the relaunch of its website. Contributing artists
include Lucy Cousins, Jasper Fforde, and The Mighty Boosh.
