Job losses are expected as Game Group looks to
centralise its business. The video games retailer will relocate
the Gamestation head office from York to Basingstoke,
where the rest of the group is based. A consultation process
affecting up to 80 roles has begun, reports MCV.
Redundancies are also being made at Litho Supplies, a
supplier of consumables, equipment and services to UK printing
firms. According to Printweek, the company is making 10 staff
redundant and scaling back on its field sales agents to
concentrate its efforts on online sales and telemarketing.
And three jobs are being lost at Isle of Man-based Duke
Marketing. Duke, a direct marketer and wholesaler of
motorsport, sport and special interest DVDs, books and print,
said that the collapse of Woolworths-owned entertainment products
distributor EUK impacted heavily on wholesale DVD sales. Duke
will now shift focus to the group’s online business, which
continues to grow, reports IOMtoday. There is some good news though,
Duke has secured a deal to distribute more than 1,500 of its
products through more than 20 websites, including Tesco,
Asda and Dixons.
Leeds-based Straight plc, a business-to-business and
direct-to-consumer supplier of waste and recycling solutions has
bought Harcostar Garden Products for £400,000.
According to TheBusinessDesk.com the acquired water
butt, compost bin, and other garden accessories business would
offer considerable cross-selling scope for Straight and enable
it to expand its distribution channels in the UK and mainland
Europe.
