Littlewoods parent company Shop Direct is
shedding approximately 1,150 jobs. According to Crain’s Manchester Business, the cataloguer
is closing a contact centre in Merseyside, cutting 150 jobs at
its headquarters, and probably making some fulfilment and
financial services employees redundant as well. Shop Direct
says the redundancies are due to an increase in online orders
at the expense of phone orders.

Argos is pulling out of its franchise venture in India
after less than two years, reports the Financial Times, citing a failure to meet
expectations.

Asda’s expansion of its non-food Asda.com direct
offering will result in the creation of some 2,000 jobs,
according to DIY Week.
