Business Secretary Lord Mandelson told Parliament yesterday that the speculation was true: The operations arm of Royal Mail needs to be partially privatised in order to remain viable and that Dutch delivery firm TNT was interested in acquiring a share. According to Reuters, TNT’s “interest in a stake in Royal Mail hinged on the full implementation of Mandelson’s reform proposals, including changes to regulation and the government paying off much of Royal Mail’s company pension liabilities”. Royal Mail, for its part, says that while it needs to review Mandelson’s proposed reforms more closely, so far it welcomes the suggestions and a possible partnership with TNT.

The UK managing director of IT direct marketer Insight, Angelo Di Ventura, is leaving the company at the end of the year, according to CRN. He will be replaced by Emma Crookes, who will be given the title vice president for Insight UK and Ireland.

“The founders of Ideal Shopping Direct raised their combined stake in the loss-making TV operation to 29 per cent on Monday,” reports the Financial Times, “triggering speculation about a possible boardroom coup.” Other sources, however, say that they’re simply taking advantage of the low share price.
