Next reported a 1.7 per cent decline in annual revenue,
to £3.27 billion for the year ended January 2009. Retail
like-for-likes fell 6.5 per cent. Catalogue and online sales
grew 2.1 per cent, to £816.4 million, but the company is
projecting a 2 per cent decline in direct sales for the first
half of fiscal 2009. Total profit before tax fell 13.9 per cent,
to £428.8 million.
Kingfisher, the parent company of DIY retailer
B&Q and tools cataloguer/retailer Screwfix,
posted a 10.8 per cent rise in annual sales, to £10.03
billion for the year to 31st January 2009. But like-for-like
sales fell by 4.1 per cent. Adjusted pretax profit rose 3.1
per cent, to £368 million. UK sales fell 2.6 per cent, to
£4.3 billion.
