The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has announced its Royal
Mail strike plans for next week. On Thursday, 22 October, 42,000
main centre staff and drivers will strike for 24 hours; the
following day 78,000 delivery and collection workers will walk
out for 24 hours. Meanwhile, The Telegraph reports that some parcel
carriers are already operating at close to full capacity and
“might not be able to cope with the extra business that
is coming their way as a result of the impending postal
strike”.

Welco, whose three catalogues sell industrial
and office supplies for schools, health facilities, and general

Fashion retailer Gap is finally going to
make its UK website transactional, in time for the autumn 2010
season, the Financial Times reports. Sister brand
Banana Republic will begin selling online in
the UK next autumn as well. Currently, Gap is available online
in the UK only via the ASOS website.

The Office of Fair Trading is looking into targeting pricing
online–or as The Times puts it, “whether internet
retailers are charging customers different prices for the same
goods, by gleaning information on search and purchasing
histories that allow them to estimate what a shopper will be
willing to pay”.
