US-based online retailer CSN Stores, which operates
over 200 websites, including AllModern.com,
Cookware.com, Luggage.com,
BedroomFurniture.com, CSNLighting.com and
Strollers.com, is to establish a European base on the
western coast of Ireland and create 200 jobs in the County Galway
area, reports the Irish Independent. Yesterday the company
announced it was opening up
CookwareEssentials.co.uk, its first transactional site
to service shoppers beyond the US and Canada.

Computer games retailer GAME delivered a like-for-like
sales rise of 11.9 per cent for the UK and Ireland for the 44
weeks ended 29 November 2008. But sales for the past 18 weeks
rose a scant 1.8 per cent as consumer spending slowed.

Automotive accessories retailer Halfords is the latest
chain to announce job cuts. According to FT.com, about 1 in 14 head office jobs and
250 store jobs face the axe.
