The Pier is the latest retailer to fall into
administration. The Financial Times reports that its
administrator, Mazars, has appointed turnaround specialist
Hilco to operate The Pier in the interim. Hilco is also
operating Woolworths, which fell into administration
last week.

Seventy-five of the country’s 100 largest retailers are
offering discounts, The Telegraph reports. That’s up from 52
just two weeks ago.

Online footwear merchant VivaLaDiva.com, part of the
N Brown Group stable of brands, will be sponsoring a
course at the London College of Fashion. According to Drapers, the company will sponsor a contest
for students, with the winner’s footwear collection being sold
on the site in 2010.

The Mirror profiles the husband-and-wife
team behind decorative accessories cataloguer Country
Heart.

Cataloguers Not on the High Street, Volga Linen Co and
Fish Society are among the “best shops and websites
for unusual gifts”, according to The Times.
