Second-quarter catalogue and online sales at
Mothercare and its Early Learning
Centres unit rose 25.1 per cent impressive, but below the
47.9 per cent increase in half-year direct sales. Overall sales
for the second quarter rose a scant 0.3 per cent, however, and
store sales fell 2.6 per cent “due to a planned reduction in
space”.

The Independent, which also notes that
retail credit insurers Euler Hermes, Atradius and Coface
recently withdrew insurance cover for suppliers to trade with
the troubled retailer.
Retailers are bringing out their Christmas promotions earlier

stand-off between shoppers, who have been leaving Christmas
later and later each year, and retailers desperate to stave off
