Argos has taken a leaf out of online behemoth Amazon’s book and
expanded its reach beyond home and garden products.
The autumn/winter catalogue, launched later this year, will
feature children’s clothing and gifts “leveraging its
market-leading toy licence relationships”, said a company
statement. Approximately 600 lines will be stocked in larger
stores for immediate collection.
In a further effort to broaden its offer, Argos has opened its
website to third parties, receiving a commission on each sale.
The first service offered is books, with an initial range of
5,000 titles. Argos is selling children’s and adult fiction,
biographies, non-fiction titles and reference books, all with
free delivery, compared to its standard delivery charge of
£5.95.
The retailer says it will introduce some 12,500 online-only lines
in categories including technology, white goods and toys during
the next financial year.
