News roundup–Crew Clothing, Ahold, QVC

Crew Clothing has posted a 17 per cent growth in
turnover, to £40.7 million, writes the Independent. Pretax
profit is also up, by 27 per cent, to £3.24 million in the
year to 30th October 2011.

Dutch retailer Ahold, which operates one of the
Netherlands’ largest supermarkets, has acquired online retailer
Bol.com for €350 million (£296.9
million). Bol.com is one of the most visited websites in the
Netherlands; according to a company statement, half of all Dutch
consumers who shopped online bought something from Bol.com in
2011. The acquisition is part of Ahold’s strategy to extend its
reach online and broaden its non-food offering.

The Book People has named Karen Stanford, former
consultant at digital marketing and technology company 20:20
Dialogue, as direct marketing manager.

US-based QVC is understood to have acquired
eCommerce website Send the Trend, a start-up
offering personalised accessories such as sunglasses, scarves and
fashion jewellery. Terms of the deal have not been
disclosed.
