DIY retailer B&Q is making 220 people redundant at its head
office. The job losses come as part of B&Q’s restructuring
programme to realign the business as a “focused, agile,
omnichannel retailer”, said a company statement.
The announcement follows a financial statement by parent company
Kingfisher, which disclosed that sales at B&Q declined 3 percent
to £2 billion in the first half of the year, while retail
profit declined by 24.1 percent to £125 million during the
period.
Sister company Screwfix, on the other hand, grew total sales by
8.9 percent to £273 million and retail profit to £20
million, benefiting from the continued rollout of new outlets,
the success of its “click, pay & collect” service and
the more recent introduction of a mobile click and collect offer.
Jobs at Screwfix were not affected, a spokesperson
confirmed.
