Mothercare gets social in the US, India

A Watford, Hertfordshire-based cataloguer/retailer of maternity
and baby products, Mothercare hasn’t launched its website or
stores in the US yet. But it has established a presence
nonetheless with the expansion of its year-old Gurgle
social-networking website into the US and India. And it is
working to enable visitors to the US and India Gurgle sites, like
the UK version, to link directly to the UK transactional
Mothercare website.

Although Gurgle is the company’s first foray into North America,
Mothercare has 328 stores throughout Continental Europe, Asia and
Africa as well as 225 in the UK. In 2007 sales from outside the
UK accounted for 17 percent of Mothercare’s revenue, or
£87.1 million ($140 million).
