French Connection Group’s Toast
catalogue saw first-quarter sales rise compared with last year.
In fact, the apparel retailer/wholesaler said it
“performed well” in the 15 weeks ended 17th May,
albeit with flat overall sales, but is nonetheless maintaining
a “cautious outlook” for the rest of the year.

Contemporary home furnishings cataloguer Dwell is
opening three more stores this year, bringing its total to 10,
reports HousewaresLive.net.

From the “it could be worse” department, courtesy
of The Telegraph: “Britain is better
placed to weather the brewing economic storm than the US
because UK banks tightened up their lending criteria for
consumers two years ago, the world’s largest credit information
agency, Experian, claimed yesterday.”

The nasty April weather that kept shoppers off the high
street kept them online. The BBC refers to the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales
Index indicating that year-on-year online sales for April rose 85
per cent.
