News roundup—27th June 2008

Direct Wines is relocating its call centre
from Plymouth to Gloucester, where its new distribution centre
is, by the end of the year. More than 100 full-time workers
will be made redundant unless they agree to relocate, reports
the Plymouth Herald.

Beginning next year, additional suffixes will be available
for website domain names. In addition to the now-standard
.com, .co.uk, .net and others, organisations will be
able to register or bid for a whole gamut of suffixes. But as an
article in the Guardian points out, relaxing the URL
naming conventions in this way could lead to increased
cybersquatting.
