News roundup—27th March 2009

Direct marketers Natural Collection and Ethical
Superstore have merged. Both sell eco-friendly goods online,
and Natural Collection has a print catalogue as well. The
combined company projects an annual turnover of £8 million.
They’ll retain their individual brands for the time being, but
The Guardian expects that “ultimately
the merged shop is likely to be called Ethical Superstore,
selling an ‘own-brand’ range of products under the Natural
Collection brand”.

For furniture cataloguer/retailer Dwell, Britain
apparently goes no farther west than Bristol: the North Devon Journal reports that a Devon
resident was told the company would not deliver beyond Bristol,
even though the front of the catalogue promises “rapid
nationwide service”.
