Electronics and computer reseller DSGi warned that it
may cut 50 jobs within its DSGi Business unit, according to
Channel Register. DSGi Business includes
cataloguer/retailer PC World Business and direct brand
MacWarehouse.

On the other hand, the Birmingham Post quotes the chairman of
retailer/cataloguer John Lewis as saying, “There
will be no job cuts. We are a business, we believe in pursuing
a long-term approach to growing the business – we’re not into
making knee-jerk cuts in staff costs just to protect short-term
profit.”

“Retailers delivered their worst performance for nearly
a quarter of a century last month,” reports The Independent, “and there is little
sign of relief for them any time soon.”

In a Daily Mail article criticising fashion
gurus Trinny and Susannah, the writer refers to fashion
retailer/cataloguer Kew as a “cheap high-street
shop”-prompting a reader to respond, “Kew? Cheap?
You have to be joking!”
