As rumoured, Littlewoods Shop Direct Group will buy
the Empire Stores customer database and brand name. But as
The Times reports, the deal will not
save the jobs of Empire’s 850 workers in Bradford and
Wakefield. The acquisition of the brand from Redcats UK
is expected to be completed in July.

Printer Quebecor World has placed its UK operations in
administration following its filing for bankruptcy protection in
Canada and the United States last week. The Montreal-based
company operates a plant in Corby, Northants, that employs 290
workers. The Canadian Press quotes a Quebecor
spokesperson as admitting, “It’s not good news for the
people in the UK.”

Mosaic Fashions, a division of Baugur, is selling its
Whistles fashion retail chain to a newly formed company
led by Jane Shepherdson, a former director of Topshop,
according to The Telegraph.
