News International, the corporation behind The Times
and The Sun newspapers has made its first investment in a
standalone eCommerce site. The media group has taken a stake in
BrandAlley.co.uk, a subsidiary of French site
Brandalley.com, reports Reuters. BrandAlley.com offers members-only
sales on discounted and end-of-line branded goods. It first
announced its intentions to enter the UK market in 2006 after
raising more than £2 million with venture capital group
Banexi Ventures.

A shake-up is imminent at Dixons reports The Telegraph . Apparently DSGi has
drafted in a team of management consultants to carry out a
strategic review of the business which is rumoured to lead to a
“large scale” store closure programme.

Private equity firm 3i and retailer Hobbs are the being
tipped as the likely buyers of LK Bennett, the shoe and
apparel retail chain. The Observer notes that nothing is set in
stone-a sale fell through in 2004 when the company’s founder
Linda Bennett pulled out having failed to achieve her asking
price.

The founders of White Stuff, the ski and casual wear
retailer/cataloguer, are poised to sell the business reveals
The Sunday Times. The newspaper reports
that KMPG has been hired to carry out a strategic review with
the aim of finding a private equity firm to buy a significant
stake.
