Abel & Cole has been acquired by William Jackson Food Group, the owner of Aunt Bessie’s Yorkshire puddings, for an undisclosed sum. It is understood that Hull-based William Jackson will retain Abel & Cole’s 450 staff following the deal, alongside its management team led by chairman Keith Abel.

Online retailers have been warned by the Office of Fair Trading to make their terms and conditions more transparent in the run up to Christmas. The OFT has written to 62 of the top online retailers after a sweep of 156 websites found signs that many may not be fully complying with consumer protection law.

Furniture retailer Oak Furniture Land reported strong business growth in the six months ending September, with sales of £59 million for the period, a 155 per cent growth in turnover. To accommodate its growth, the company recently moved its distribution centre to larger, 200,000 sqft premises in Swindon.
