News roundup–Alexon, Argos, Walmart

Alexon has suspended trading in its shares after
it became apparent that it was unlikely to find a solution to the
funding issues it is currently experiencing. The Independent believes private equity firm Sun
European Partners, the owner of the SCS
furniture chain, will buy it out of prepack administration
“as early as tomorrow”.

The Guardian has a piece on
Argos’s new TV channel and its potential to get
the retailer’s sales back on track.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. has appointed David Cheesewright as
executive vice president, president and chief executive officer
of a new regional management team with responsibility for
Walmart’s retail operations in Canada, the UK
and sub-Saharan Africa. He will also oversee business development
in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Canada.

Lovefilm, the movies and games rental service,
has launched an iPad app that allows users to watch their movie
stream, view trailers and add to their DVD rental list on the
go.

ASOS has launched a Spanish-language website.
Earlier this month, ASOS launched in Australia.
