In the six months to 30th September 2010, retail sales at apparel etailer ASOS  soared 50 per cent. The first half saw UK retail sales rise 26 per cent, while international sales leapt 120 per cent. Overseas sales now account for 37 per cent of total retail sales, compared with 25 per cent this time last year. Pretax profit also surged-up 59 per cent to £7 million.

Amazon.com is close to buying the parent company of US websites Diapers.com and Soap.com. The deal rumoured to be worth around
$540 million, reports Bloomberg, will see Amazon remove a large competitor from the market.

Further to its announcement on 10th August that Liz Evans was appointed managing director of Oasis and former LK Bennett chief executive Margaret McDonald was named managing director of Coast, multi-brand apparel company Aurora Fashions has made additional
senior-level appointments. Meg Lustman, formerly the company’s chief strategy officer becomes managing director of Warehouse, while Gemma Metherington and Steve Price are appointed joint managing directors of Karen Millen. The news comes as Aurora releases its half-year update showing a like-for-like sales rise of 5 percent and a jump in EBITDA of 36 percent to £17.8 million. This is the first time all four of Aurora’s brands have each had a managing director.

According to the Telegraph, the owners of electronics firm Maplin are in preliminary talks with at least three private equity houses regarding a potential sale of the business.

Royal Mail has launched a trial of evening deliveries for people living within the M25. Consumers in the catchment area can select an evening delivery option for items they have ordered from participating retailers including House of Fraser and cosmetics company L’Occitane.
