Stylo, the parent company of footwear cataloguer/retailer Barratts, has acquired rival Dolcis out of administration, Drapers reports. The purchase includes the Dolcis brand, its stock and 10 of its stores.

The International Herald Tribune heralds the return of the “magalogue”, that magazine-catalogue hybrid epitomised by the
direct mail piece. Among other retailers, name-checked in the article are Abercrombie & Fitch, Uniqlo, H&M and Howies.

Online retailer has launched a music-download service, reports the BBC.

Here’s a bit of fiscal cheer: In a release, Arcandor AG had “a very good start” to its fiscal second quarter, with January sales at its Primondo speciality catalogue division up 16 per cent from last year. Primondo’s titles include fashion catalogues Peter Hahn and Elegance.

Financial Times looks at what it calls “natural selection” on the high street and the recent rash of retailers (among them Dolcis, Elvi and Base Menswear) that have gone into administration.
