News roundup–Boden to launch in France, sales up at Lovehoney, more


Apparel cataloguer/retailer Boden is opening a
French-language website in the third quarter of 2011. The
Boden.fr site will be the fifth international website for the
company, which is active in the UK, US, Germany and Austria.
Boden will set up a French-speaking customer service team to
handle sales and support enquiries and will expand its marketing
team to raise awareness of the new website with PR, direct mail
and digital marketing campaigns planned. Founder Johnnie Boden
might have his work cut out with French consumers though, after
he was quoted in a Sunday Times Magazine article calling French women
“stroppy” and the south of France
“grim”.

Sex-toy etailer Lovehoney saw sales increase 29
percent from £10.4 million to £13.4 million in the year
ended March 2011. After recruiting more staff and investing in
product research, profit rose a more modest 13 percent from
£1.5 million to £1.7 percent, writes the Telegraph.

Fat Face, the apparel retailer/cataloguer,
recorded a 13 percent sales increase in the year to 28th May.
Sales rose to £152.7 million following an overhaul of the
company’s product range, reports the Financial Times. Earnings were also up, by 28
percent, to £24.8 million.

US-based games etailer Gamestop has opened a UK
online shop. The new site allows UK customers to shop in sterling
for gaming hardware, software, accessories, and preowned games.
Gamestop is already active in 16 countries including Australia,
Canada, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand and Sweden.

Loss-making fashion label Aquascutum is in talks
to secure an £8 million bank loan. The funds are expected to
be used to repay a £3 debt to the company’s Hong Kong and
Chinese licensee, YGM, writes the Guardian.

Lands’ End has named Edgar Huber as president
and chief executive. Huber arrives at Lands’ End parent

, where he was executive vice president, global
business development.

The Office of Fair Trading has launched the Distance Selling Hub, a resource helping
businesses comply with the law when selling goods and services at
a distance. The advice includes understanding consumer rights and
navigating the distance selling regulations.
