News roundup–Damart, Lush, Best Buy

Mail order firm Damart is understood to be
making up to 50 staff redundant at its premises in Steeton and
Bingley, reports the Keighley News. The business, which has 700
workers across the two sites has begun a consultation process
with staff.

Despite reporting a 10 per cent increase in sales to £272.2
million in the year ending June 2011, cosmetics retailer
Lush saw pretax profit fall 4 per cent to
£21.3 million. The company attributed the dip to a decline
in its Japanese division. Lush said that turnover for the eight
months to 29 March 2012 is 15.6 per cent ahead of the previous
financial year.

The Wall Street Journal has more on the probe
into former Best Buy chief Brian Dunn. According
to the article, an investigation into the personal conduct of
Dunn is exploring whether he misused company assets in the course
of a relationship with a female employee.

Anne Walker, chief executive of Devon-based International
Dance Supplies is urging Devon County Council to scrap
its plans to build a waste facility near her company’s
