Toy retailer Hamleys has been sold to French group Ludendo. According to the Independent, the 250-year-old retailer was snapped up for £60 million. Family-run Groupe Ludendo operates 300 toy stores across France, Belgium, Switzerland and Spain.

Fashion label Amanda Wakeley has secured a “significant financial investment” from AGC Equity Partners. The investment is a coup for the business, which underwent a restructure in 2009.

The Sunday Times reports that profits at Fred Perry were up by £4 million to £34.2 million in the year ending March. The brand’s global sales for the year hit £120 million, up from £103.6 million the previous year.

Debenhams has released a trading statement ahead of the announcement of its full year results on 25th October. The department-store chain reports strong like-for-like sales growth and progression throughout the year, ending fiscal 2012 with like-for-like sales up 2.3 percent on the previous year. Online sales are up 40 percent on last year as the company continues to invest in its multichannel strategy.

According to the Daily Mail, home deliveries actually cost supermarkets up to £20 a time. This means that despite the popularity of the service, most supermarkets do not make a profit
from their online grocery operations. The piece warns that consumers may have to pay up to £15 per delivery in order to cover the costs. Currently customers pay no more than £6.50.

William Kim, formerly senior vice president of retail and digital commerce at Burberry, is joining apparel retailer AllSaints on 15th October, reports the Independent.

Ikea’s chief executive Mikael Ohlsson is stepping down from the board. He will be replaced next September by Peter Agnefjll, the current head of Ikea in Sweden, writes the Financial Times.

Charles Tyrwhitt is opening its 20th store, and second outlet in Scotland, this November. The new store will open on Buchanan Street in Glasgow and create around a dozen new jobs.

More store news from Oakfurnitureland. Following the opening of its 22nd store earlier this month, Oakfurnitureland.co.uk has confirmed it will open another new store. The hardwood
furniture specialist will open a store in Livingston on Saturday, 22nd September, its fourth store north of the Scottish border.

Online cycling and trisports retailer Wiggle can now accept orders from Chinese customers paying through the Alipay system. Wiggle says it is only the third British retailer to offer Alipay.
