News roundup–Net-a-Porter unveils plans for menswear site, more

Luxury-fashion etailer Net-a-Porter is launching
a menswear offering called Mr Porter. The site, set
for launch for the spring/summer 2011 season, currently features
a holding page. The
Independent

At Park Group, the savings-club catalogue
business, sales for the fiscal year ended 31st March 2010 were up
5 per cent to £263.2 million. Operating profit increased 38
per cent to £4.3 million, but pretax profit fell 14.5 per cent
to £5.3 million from £6.2 million last year due to
interest rates being at an all-time low.

Electronic components distributor Farnell is not
a catalogue company, its chief executive told the
ElectronicsWeekly.com
blogger. Although the firm mails
“100,000s of print catalogues”, most of its European
business is generated online.

Online retailer ASOS is considering allowing its
customers to pick up their parcels at high street stores, such as

. According to the article, ASOS is looking
for ways of improving its service without having to open
stores.
In what may be called a “counter-intuitive” move,
chief executive Nick Robertson told the
Times
that ASOS would point customers to other retailers to
find items that ASOS doesn’t stock. However, ASOS won’t be losing
out on the sale completely-Robertson plans to charge
commission.
