News roundup—New Fat Face chief, plus Aurum, EthicalSuperstore, more

Fashion cataloguer/retailer Fat Face has named Anthony
Thompson, managing director of Asda’s George fashion
brand, as its new chief executive. He replaces Louise Barnes, who
will be leaving after seven years.

Jewellery group Aurum Holdings, which includes
cataloguer/retailer Mappin & Webb and high-street chain
Goldsmiths, exceeded expectations for the nine weeks to
3rd January, the Telegraph reports.

Post-Christmas sales at eco-friendly direct marketer
EthicalSuperstore.com are up 150 per cent from last year,
the Northern Echo reports.

ASOS is the most recent fashion brand to expand into the
plus-size market. The etailer today launched Curve, a
proprietary brand in sizes 20-26.

The good news: Year-on-year online sales rose 17 per cent in
December, to a record £5.46 billion, according to the IMRG
Capgemini Sales Index. But the conversion rate dropped 25
per cent, to a scant 5 per cent from 6.7 per cent, which the

Financial Times
notes “pointed to an increasingly
competitive market, with consumers browsing a number of sites
before committing to a purchase”.
