N Brown, the owner of Simply Be, Jacamo and Julipa, is recruiting workers who are a size 14 and above for its Simply Be brand, which caters for large and taller women. The Daily Mail reports new staff will wear the chain’s range of clothing, which goes up to size 32, to help customers look their best. Staff will also be expected to share personal advice with customers to make them feel less self-conscious while shopping.
According to Reuters IKEA will shift to renewable energy by 2020 and grow more trees than it uses under a plan to safeguard nature. Under the plan, IKEA will invest 1.5 billion euros ($1.95 billion, £1.22 billion) from 2009-15 in solar and wind power to produce at least 70 per cent of the group’s energy. By 2020 it would produce as much renewable energy as it consumes.
Luxury travel operator Kuoni is selling holidays in John Lewis. The Telegraph states Kuoni launched a concession inside John Lewis’ Oxford Street department store this week and will open a stand inside John Lewis’s Reading branch on October 29, and another inside the company’s Cardiff store on November 5.
The Daily Mail’s This is Money column looks at Amazon’s plans to become a film and TV producer. Through its website, Amazon will encourage aspiring writers to upload their scripts and will help develop scripts into trial videos that are then reviewed by Amazon customers.
Littlewoods has signed up television personality Suzi Perry, who presented The Gadget Show for seven years, to front the second instalment of its live Facebook TV show. She will host a gadget-focused edition of Littlewoods Live tomorrow at 9 pm, which will be available to stream live on the department stores website as well as being broadcast via Facebook and on mobile. Direct Commerce covered Littlewoods first Facebook programme with its celebrity “brand ambassador” Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen in July.
