Gifts cataloguer The Handpicked Collection is
launching a spin-off website called the Handpicked Foodstore on
Wednesday, 12th September. The move is designed to offer a food
service and extend the company’s offering to corporate gifts. The
site will sell luxury foods such as smoked salmon, smoked trout,
smoked duck, pates, cakes, condiments and sauces, as well as gift
boxes ranging from approximately £20 to £100, which can
include wines, champagnes and spirits.

Following the news that Barnes & Noble is
bringing its Nook ereader to the UK last week,
Tesco has confirmed the acquisition of
Mobcast, an ebook platform provider. Mobcast has
a catalogue of more than 130,000 popular titles that can be
bought and read on smartphones, tablets and e-readers.

New Look is understood to be “sounding out
headhunters” to find its new chief executive, reports the
Financial Times. According to the article,
the privately owned retailer has resumed its search for a chief
exec seven months after it initially abandoned it.

Marks & Spencer has poached House of
Fraser’s fashion boss Stephanie Chen to head up its
childrenswear and homeware departments. M&S also announced that
Scott Fyfe has moved from trading director of womenswear
merchandising and planning to the role of director of
menswear.

Germany-based Spreadshirt, which sells
customised clothing and gifts, has seen positive growth in the
first half of 2012, with year-on-year revenue growth of 35
per cent. Total revenue for 2011 was €45.8 million. The US
is Spreadshirt’s biggest single market accounting for more than
30 per cent of revenue. US sales grew 103 per cent year-on-year in
the first half.

The co-founder and managing director of Groupon
in Poland was named the new managing director at
Integer.pl, a Polish post carrier ahead of its
international expansion. Karol Mileski joins the business to
oversee the global expansion of easyPack by Inpost service. His
remit will be to increase the number of parcels sent via the
easyPack service in Poland, as well as responsibilities for
infrastructure in Russia, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. By
2013 3,000 easyPack machines will be deployed in the UK.
